from What I Did on my Indie-Rock Spring Break
by Suzanne Asprea
Thursday, March 13. Day 1. On the way down, I expected to be kept awake by screaming kids, if the wailing brats at the Sea-Tac gate were any indication. What I failed to realize was that on a red-eye flight, most kids will soon wind down and pass out. But that truth didn’t hold for all the big kids. Some of them were quite chirpy, fueled by $4 drinks and the excitement of playing at SXSW, where bands from all over the globe come to be seen and discovered.

Across the aisle from me on this very full flight were the winners of The Stranger’s “send your favorite band to SXSW” contest – Alta May. They kept everyone within earshot awake for the whole flight with their boozy banter and audible air drumming. Alta May’s drummer, I presume it was, would periodically jerk awake to provide everyone with a little percussive entertainment. “Kshh! Kshh! Kshh!” Over and over and over...

Kyle at Omaha Weekly
"Can't thank you enough for the Alta May advance you sent to the Omaha Weekly. I'll probably never be able to have kids after listening to it as my nuts were blown off, but I'll live."
